2005 Calgardup Brook Chardonnay

Ralph Kyte-Powell, Uncorked Wine Guide, 12 November 2006
This single vineyard Margaret River Chardonnay presents great harmony between subtle fruit character and beautifully restrained winemaking. An understated wine – light years away from the big, tropical style.
Food: Crab
Ageing: Drink now to 2009

2005 3 Amigos Red

Sally Gudgeon, The Sunday Age, November 19, 2006
The three friends are shiraz, grenache and mataro from Margaret River. An easy drinking palate with earthy tannins complements the raspberry and black fruit notes. Try it with roast quail.

Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine, February 2007
There is life after Cape Mentelle for Margaret River pioneer David Hohnen, who has joined with his brother-in-law Murray McHenry, to create this new label, daughter Freya being the winemaker. Their 3 Amigos is a Cotes-du-Rhone style blend with shiraz to the fore. It's only mid-weight but shows oodles of rich, generous fruit flavours of ripe cherries and damson plums with a hint of aniseed and five spice. Serve with barbecued lamb backstrap marinated with Moroccan spices.

David Hohnen of Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay fame has teamed up with his brother-in-law and daughter to create a range of Margaret River wines. Full, seductive fruit, the grapes retain definition, yet blend into a super finish.

2005 3 Amigos White

Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age, October 3, 2006
The Hohnen part of the McHenry Hohnen partnership includes David, founder of the famous Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay, which lends instant credibility to a new Margaret River brand. This dry white blend appeals for its generous grapey flavours and soft creamy texture deriving from barrel fermentation and maturation on lees. Certainly not in the elegant or precious moulds, but an honest, satisfying and versatile drink. Bound to be found by the case in the Telstra boardroom bar.

Max Allen, The Weekend Australian, November 2006
A full-flavoured blend of marsanne, chardonnay and roussanne from Margaret River. It tastes of honeyed nuts and is butterscotchy in the mouth, but becomes deliciously refreshing when tackling something simple and fishy like grilled whiting drizzled with lemon.

2005 Tiger Country Red

Cellar Door by Philip Rich, Financial Review Magazine June 2007
David Hohnen has always had a knack for predicting trends (none greater than planting sauvignon blanc at Cloudy Bay in the 1980s) and he's now right on the money with this tempranillo-dominant blend. Full of dark fruits and with a touch of raspberry cola, this delicious, medium bodied and food-friendly wine boasts excellent concentration and balance.

Sally Gudgeon & Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age, 18th Nov 2007
McHenry Hohnen is a venture between David Hohnen, ex CEO of Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay, and his brother-in-law Murray McHenry. This svelte blend of tempranillo, petit verdot and cabernet sauvignon from Margaret River shimmers with dark berry fruits and chocolate. Firm tannins frame fleshy fruit.
Food: Venison steak.
Ageing: Drink now to 2012.

Winorama
Aromas of blackcurrant, cherry, raspberry, blood, violets, earth, mint and cedar oak. It is all happening here. On the palate medium bodied with red fruit, violet, mint and earthy flavours. Lovely dry fine firm tannins and fresh crisp acidity. Finishes with crunchy red fruit and dried herb flavours. This really builds up with some time in the glass so decant if drinking now. Intriguing and highly interesting.
